Pierre BUYOYA est décédé des suites de la Covid-19 hier jeudi 17 décembre 2020, selon son entourage, cité par des médias burundais et étrangers. Il s’est éteint à l’âge de 71 ans.
Il fut président du Burundi de 1987 à 1993, puis de 1996 à 2003.
